The challenge for the producers was enormous even before the filming of the Watchmen show. After all, it was necessary to compete with the excellent film adaptation of Zack Snyder and at the same time to satisfy the countless fans of the story of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. Their comics have had a cult that is viral for more than 30 years. But the work was successful. The new series around the unscrupulous antihero hit critics and fans like a bomb. Some even called it the best show in 2019.

The Cult Around The Watchmen Continues

Watchmen begins in his first scenes in the past. In 1921, there was a massacre in Tulsa, Oklahoma when a young boy survived the night of horror. At first, the viewer does not find out what will happen to him. Because the action jumps straight to the year of 2019 and starts precisely at every point in front of the little boy from the back, then saw a burning city. You can tell immediately that this series wants to stand out from the many superhero TV shows and movies. In this parallel world, history has developed differently than you expect it.

Richard Nixon was President of the United States for decades before the actor Robert Redford became his successor. He has been in power for 28 years and has passed numerous controversial laws during his term of office. That also included disarming and supervising the police. That inevitably led to new problems. After multiple attacks on the law enforcement officers, they are now keeping their identity a secret. They wear masks when they are on duty, but some of them lead double lives. They strike back as self-proclaimed superheroes. The main character is Angela Abar and this role is played by Regina King. She exercises vigilante justice in the name of the law.

A Remix Of The Comic World

As you can see, the story initially has nothing to do with the original one made by Alan Moore. Damon Lindelof, the creator of Watchmen, sees his work as a kind of remix of the comic world. He wants to tell a new story with new heroes in the existing comic universe. Lindelof has already proven with Lost and Leftovers that he can implement challenging materials correctly. His watchmen do not operate in the 1980s, but the action is happening here and now. Nevertheless, the fans will find numerous allusions and acquaintances.

If you don’t know the comics, you might have problems to understand the story at the beginning. But that dissolves in the course of the series in favor. The producers explain the background step by step. The staging also contributes to the fact that no boredom can arise. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross from Nine Inch Nails prove once again that they are the perfect choice for such soundtracks.  The directors stage the settings like comic strips; the editing is fast and thrilling. The realistic action scenes appear very real. Here a rapid pace meets a socially critical story that takes up current problems and dissects them.Nevertheless, the fans will find numerous allusions and acquaintances.
